Emily Michael Munson represents clients in high-stakes cases involving complex commercial disputes, government investigations, and white collar criminal investigations.
Prior to joining Hueston Hennigan, Ms. Munson was an associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP in New York City, where she represented clients in a wide variety of complex commercial litigation and international arbitration concerning contractual disputes, foreign sovereign immunity, and regulatory violations, among others. She also has significant experience representing clients in government investigations.
During law school, Ms. Munson served as the Chair of the International Human Rights Law Association. She participated in Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, Austria, and the Jean Pictet International Humanitarian Law Competition in Evian, France. She also served as a legal intern for the refugee representation project with Human Rights First and a public affairs intern with the U.S. Department of State.
Experience
Secured a complete defense verdict after trial for The Boeing Company in a trade secret, breach of contract, and tortious interference case. In addition to defeating Zunum’s claims, Boeing is entitled to $12 million from Zunum on Boeing’s cross claim. Successfully represented Endo Pharmaceuticals in litigation related to opioid abuse in the U.S. District Court in San Francisco. Following extensive fact and expert development that strengthened Endo’s position, the case favorably settled on the eve of trial. Successfully settled a suit brought by Don Lee Farms against Beyond Meat alleging breach of contract, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation arising out of Beyond Meat’s termination of an exclusive supply agreement; and defended against Beyond Meat’s related cross-claims alleging breach of contract, misappropriation of trade secrets, trademark infringement, and fraud.
Representing a Chinese entrepreneur in a civil dispute against former business partner in China.
Successfully settled a suit brought by Palantir Technologies against a former early investor alleging breach of contract, misappropriation of trade secrets, and other wrongful conduct after defeating a motion for summary judgment.
Represented Citibank, N.A. and affiliates in bankruptcy adversary proceeding and Second Circuit appeals arising out of the Bernie Madoff fraud.
Represented major financial institutions in regulatory investigations by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
Represented a prominent pension fund in government investigation related to alleged insider trading.
Represented a leading private oil and gas company in Latin America in arbitration related to contractual dispute and environmental regulations.
Represented a committee of creditors of the Republic of Venezuela regarding strategic litigation options arising out of defaulted sovereign debt.
Represented family of Salvadoran refugees in immigration proceedings and successfully obtained asylum status.
